Saving without Scissors - Test to Pave Way for Mobile Rebates & Coupons
Mobile Discovery and Inmar Launch Nation's First 2D Barcode Mobile Rebate
May 14, 2008, Reston, VA - The nations' leading processor of promotional transactions announced plans today to test a mobile enabled settlement process for rebates delivered via 2D barcodes. Inmar, Inc., parent company of coupon processors CMS and Carolina Services, will pair its experience in promotional and financial settlement with mobile marketing innovator Mobile Discovery to launch the nation's first 2D code mobile rebate campaign for students, faculty and staff at Case Western Reserve University.
Just in time for graduation, students can collect up to $50 in mobile rebates on diploma frames and sweatshirts. Students are able to collect promotions using their cell phones to scan 2D codes appearing in print media such as the student newspaper, campus posters and flyers. The students can then redeem the promotions with their cell phones at a participating retailer. To deliver this valuable solution, Mobile Discovery's CodeIntelligence™ platform manages the mobile rebate distribution and redemption and Inmar's Conexions digital promotions settlement platform delivers payment via digital funds (or a physical check) to students.
"Mobile Discovery's technology offers a better, easier and faster way for consumers to get rewarding information on their phones and interact with brands," said David Miller, founder and CEO of Mobile Discovery. "Partnering with an industry leader like Inmar, who handles billions of promotional transactions every year, will show how mobile marketing can specifically enable price promotions like coupons and rebates in a way that satisfies consumers and marketers."
Market analysts at Juniper Research predict that mobile couponing will generate $7 billion in promotional redemptions by 2011 – more than double the size of grocery coupons today. This test with Inmar and Mobile Discovery seeks to address some of the challenges to reaching that predicted level.
"Consumer promotions require fundamental logistics and accounting functions behind the scenes and promotions delivered to mobile handsets are no different and actually can introduce new expectations," said Susan Jones, Director of Business Development for Inmar subsidiary CMS. "Leveraging our industry expertise and proven infrastructure with a partner like Mobile Discovery will prove out our proposed path for widespread implementation of similar promotions."
